Who are Art Therapists?  Click to open

Art Therapists are trained in the psychology of mark making and symbolism, in non-verbal communication, psychotherapeutic understanding of child development and family dynamics, and the importance of boundaries.*

Art Therapy is the use of art materials for self-expression and reflection in the presence of a trained art therapist.*

The following are different forms of Art Therapy:

Music Therapy is the use of music as a therapeutic medium to produce a
positive change in behavior that endures over time.**

Dance/Movement Therapists are trained in movement observation and
analysis, kinesthetic empathy and in the conscious use of body language.**

Drama Therapy is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to
          achieve therapeutic goals.**

One of the earliest of the "arts" therapies was Psychodrama, a method for
exploring a wide range of problems using role playing.**

Poetry Therapy involves the use of the language arts in therapeutic
          capacities.**

Bibliotherapy is a discussion process, guided by a facilitator, using literature
as the catalyst to promote insight, normal development or rehabilitation.**

Photo Therapy is an interactive system of techniques that make use of
people's personal snapshots and family albums as "openers" to access
feelings and memories not so easily available to solely-verbal investigations
          in emotional counseling and psychotherapy.**

Expressive Arts Therapy uses five art disciplines to assist the client/artist to
make contact with his/her authentic self.**
